                Prior to this, cello sonatas were features for the piano with the cello having a supportive 
        roll.  The is the first cello sonata in which piano and cello were equal partners with both 
        instruments having melodic leads.  


                Beethoven also employed new cello techniques in this sonata.  It is the most popular of  
        his five cello sonatas.
